Categories of Membership
Active Professional
Professional membership (pre K-12 and Higher Education) is open to any person who is professionally engaged in public education in West Virginia who holds a license as a professional educator (including substitutes) or is licensed to serve in the public education system of West Virginia in any other professional capacity. By joining as an active professional member you are entitled to all the rights, benefits, and privileges provided under the WVEA Constitution and Bylaws including, but not limited to, the right to vote and hold elective office within the Association, actively participate in all Association meetings, consultation with staff, Association training programs, legal representation, liability insurance, and other NEA/WVEA Member Benefits. If you are eligible to join in this category, you may do so by completing the professional membership application form.

Active Education Support Professional (ESP)
ESP membership (K-12 and Higher Education) is open to any person who is employed in an education support position (including substitutes) in West Virginia in any public school, public college or university, or any other public institution devoted primarily to education work. By joining as an ESP member, you are entitled to all rights, benefits, and privileges under the WVEA Constitution and Bylaws including, but not limited to, the right to vote and hold elective office within the Association, actively participate in all Association meetings, consultation with staff, Association training programs, legal representation, liability insurance and other special NEA/WVEA Member Benefits. If you are eligible to join in this category, you may do so by completing the ESP membership application form.

West Virginia Student Education Association (WVSEA)
WVSEA membership is open to any undergraduate or graduate student who is pursuing a career in education at a public institution of higher education in West Virginia and who has yet to be employed. WVSEA’s mission is to help prospective educators develop an understanding of the education profession and assist in the transition from the campus to the classroom. By joining as a WVSEA member, you have access to NEA and WVEA’s vast resources, from professional publications to education research. You can also attend WVSEA/WVEA sponsored training and professional development programs to supplement your education. In addition, you are covered by NEA/WVEA’s $1 million liability insurance program every time you step into a classroom, as well as being able to participate in other special NEA/WVEA Member Benefits. WVEA Retired (WVEA-R)
Retired membership is open to any person who has retired from Association service (professional or education support) in a public elementary or secondary school or public institution of higher education, as well as, active WVEA members (professional and education support). Membership entitles you to active participation in WVEA-R meetings and seminars as well as a wealth of discount programs, including but not limited to, liability insurance (if you substitute), long-term care, life, auto and homeowners insurance, retirement income investments, discounts on magazines and car rentals, and other special NEA/WVEA Member Benefits. Associate
Associate Membership is open to any person not engaged as an employee in the public elementary or secondary school systems or public institution of higher education in West Virginia, but is interested in the promotion of education in the state.
